This is an experiment I worked on. in this project I was trying to create a portable cloth washing machine which is easy to carry around and uses very little energy and water by using ultrasound.
What is Ultrasonic Cleaning
The fundamental working of an ultrasonic cleaner is the transducer’s ability to transform the sound energy of an ultrasonic frequency source into mechanical vibration. Through the cleaning tank wall, the ultrasonic wave’s vibration is communicated to the cleaning liquid, producing micro-bubbles to continue vibrating under the influence of the sound wave and removing filth that has adhered to an object’s surface.
The technique can be very quick, entirely cleaning a filthy item in a few minutes, depending on the object being cleaned. Other times, cleaning may take more than 30 minutes.
How Does The System Work
The device I created works by first receiving instructions from the user, this was achieved using an app, the user can interact with the device using an app which utilizes Bluetooth to communicate with the machine. as soon as the instructions are received the the microcontroller sends the signal to the signal generator which produces the ultrasonic frequency and delivers it to the transducer. one the timer reaches the end it sends the signal to the frequency generator to turn off. the heating of the water is achieved using the waist heat released from the transducer instead of a heating element saving power and cooling the transducer in the process
Advantages
- Easy to carry
- consumes less electricity
- uses less water
- less soap can be used
- less damage to clothes
Disadvantages
- only few clothes can be washed at a time
- some stain still remains because this is an experimental unit i created for testing
How Test Was Conducted
A bucket filled with water was mixed with soap and 3 to 4 clothes were dropped. The machine cleaning head was then lowered into the bucket and activated. The clothes were taken out after the timer stooped and the clothes was rinsed with water.

There was some situations where the machine was ineffective like when a lot of clothes were used and very tough stains were present. overall the experiment was a success and further development is going on with this machine. all future updates will be added to this page so stay tuned for that.
